something in you feels like home

I’ve been trying to understand how someone can feel so much like me and so different from me at the same time. We’ve lived different lives and had different experiences that shaped the way we see the world. Our perspectives, ideas, interests, and opinions don’t always match. Sometimes your mind goes somewhere mine never would, and I love that. I don’t always agree with you, but I understand you.

The ways we’re alike are harder to see. It’s not about having the same interests or agreeing on everything. It’s our morals, our values, the way we think through things, the way we treat people, and the kindness we carry. Those are the things that make me feel like I know you on a deeper level. We can reach completely different conclusions, but I trust the place in you those conclusions come from.

Maybe that’s what I mean when I say we’re different in our human experience but similar on a soul level. Life happened to us differently. It gave us different stories, lessons, and ways of seeing things, but underneath it all, our foundations feel the same.

I already know what the world looks like through my eyes. I want to know what it looks like through yours. I like that you make me consider things I wouldn’t have thought of on my own. I like that we can disagree without needing to change each other. Our differences don’t create distance, they give us something to learn.

I used to think compatibility meant having a lot in common. Now I think it’s finding someone whose differences expand your world while the things that matter most still feel familiar.

Our hearts and souls connect making you feel like home sweet home.
